SAP Acquired Askdata to Build the Next-Generation Lightweight Analytics Experience

Pi Campus is proud to share that SAP, the market leader in enterprise application software, acquired Askdata, a startup we funded in 2019. Askdata’s IP will become part of SAP® Business Technology Platform and contribute to a next-generation lightweight analytics experience for SAP Analytics Cloud solution customers and to line-of-business applications.

Askdata team celebrating the acquisition at Pi Campus.

Askdata was born to democratize access to data by applying advanced AI to analytics data. Today, the most profitable businesses are data-driven, but only 5% of the companies’ workforce has access to internal data. By enabling everyone to run a database query using natural language as if they were using a search engine, Askdata empowers every employee to make data-driven decisions

We invested in the company founded by Simone di Somma e Giuseppe Ancona in 2019, right after they pitched at Y Combinator’s demo day. Commenting on the acquisition, Pi Campus founder Marco Trombetti said: “Simone and the Askdata team did an extraordinary job. With this operation, we make awesome technology available to everybody once again. I want to thank SAP for their trust”.

SAP is the ideal partner to scale our technology – said Askdata CEO Di Somma –  It will help us reach thousands of companies globally and have a greater impact. I am excited also because our team will stay in Rome and keep working on applying advanced AI to data analytics: this is proof that the technology we develop in Italy is world-class.”
